Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Construction Industry

📍 Central Indiana | Full-Time | Confidential General Contractor

A well-established Heavy Civil & Site Development Contractor in Indiana is seeking to appoint a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead their financial strategy, oversee accounting operations, and drive growth across multiple business divisions.

This organization has a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across the Midwest — including infrastructure, site development, and utility work and is looking for a strong financial leader to help shape its next phase of expansion.

The Role

The CFO will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of financial performance, reporting, and compliance. This includes strategic financial planning, project profitability oversight, cash flow management, and business forecasting. You will work closely with the ownership and executive leadership to ensure financial stability and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all financial operations including accounting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Oversee project-level financial performance - job costing, WIP reports, cash flow, and cost-to-complete analysis.
  • Partner with project management and estimating teams to align financial goals with operational execution.
  • Manage relationships with banks, auditors, insurance, and bonding companies.
  • Provide data-driven insights to support executive decision-making.
  • Implement process improvements and financial systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction industry financial standards.
  • Supervise and develop accounting and finance staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience , including CFO, Controller, or VP of Finance roles within a construction or contracting environment .
  • Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, and construction billing .
  • Experience managing financial operations for self-perform or GC-based construction businesses .
  • Proven ability to partner closely with ownership and senior leadership teams.
  • Proficiency in construction accounting software (Viewpoint, Foundation, Sage, or similar) .
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Compensation & Benefits:

💰 Salary: $150,000 – $200,000 (DOE)

🎯 Benefits: Performance bonuses, health insurance, 401(k), vehicle allowance, and growth into executive partnership track.
